Patrick Mouratoglou on Djokovic’s Motivation Issues in Monte Carlo and Madrid

Sport news

Patrick Mouratoglou, coach of Naomi Osaka, has offered his analysis of Novak Djokovic`s recent clay court appearances.

Mouratoglou stated he was “very surprised” by Djokovic`s play in Monte Carlo and Madrid, specifically highlighting his *attitude* rather than his skill level. He felt Djokovic gave the impression that he “didn`t want to win at all.”

While acknowledging Djokovic`s undeniable talent – emphasizing, “This is Novak Djokovic” – Mouratoglou observed that the Serbian player did not appear “ready physically or mentally engaged.”

According to Mouratoglou, for a player of Djokovic`s standing, “if there is no motivation, there is no point stepping onto the court.”

He views Djokovic`s decision to compete in Geneva ahead of Roland Garros as a logical move aimed at “at least regain a little winning rhythm before Paris.” However, Mouratoglou concludes by posing the key question: “is it going to be enough?”
