PSG Clinch Historic First Champions League Title with Dominant 5-0 Win Over Inter

Football news

Paris Saint-Germain has won the Champions League for the first time in the club`s history, achieving a remarkable 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in a final that set a new record for the biggest winning margin.

The French side took an early lead after just 12 minutes through a superb move finished by Achraf Hakimi.

Moments later, PSG doubled their advantage when a shot from teenager Desire Doue deflected into the net, giving Inter a challenging start to the match.

Doue, who was later named Player of the Match, extended PSG`s lead to 3-0 with his second goal in the second half.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia added a fourth goal with just over fifteen minutes remaining, putting the result beyond doubt.

Academy talent Senny Mayulu completed the rout in injury time, scoring the fifth goal and confirming PSG`s place in the history books as the first team to win a European Cup or Champions League final by a five-goal difference.

Among many strong performances from the PSG squad, 19-year-old Desire Doue was particularly outstanding. He scored two goals and provided an assist on football`s biggest club stage.

Coach Luis Enrique`s decision to start Doue proved inspired, making him the youngest ever French player to start a Champions League final. Doue had a highly impressive season, contributing five goals and four assists in 16 European appearances.

Reflecting on his performance, Doue stated, “I have no words. It was just incredible for me. Simply incredible.”

He also praised Luis Enrique, calling him an “unbelievable coach, and as a human being too. It’s a pleasure to work with him.”

Inter`s Difficult Night

Despite an impressive Champions League campaign featuring strong counter-attacking performances, Simone Inzaghi`s Inter Milan struggled significantly in the final. Having previously trailed for a combined total of just over 16 minutes in their 14 matches in the competition, they found themselves behind for more than 81 minutes after conceding the early opening goal to Hakimi.

Luis Enrique Secures Second Career Treble

PSG manager Luis Enrique has become only the second coach to achieve a treble (league title, main domestic cup, and Champions League) with two different European clubs.

His first treble came with Barcelona in the 2014/15 season, and he repeated the feat with PSG this season. Pep Guardiola is the other manager to have achieved this rare distinction, winning trebles with Barcelona (2008/09) and Manchester City (2022/23).

Touching Tribute

Following the final whistle, PSG supporters displayed a tifo featuring an image of Luis Enrique`s daughter, Xana, who tragically passed away from cancer in 2019 at the age of nine. This touching tribute marked an emotional conclusion to the night.
