Former doubles world No. 1 Rennae Stubbs believes that Alexander Zverev`s current ranking is too high.
Speaking on her podcast, Stubbs commented, “Alexander Zverev is the second seed in Rome. I don`t understand his ranking. I hope this changes before Roland Garros because he doesn`t deserve to be the world No. 2. He hasn`t shown top form in tournaments; his loss [to Francisco Cerúndolo] in Madrid… That shouldn`t happen. It`s difficult to watch.”
She further elaborated, “It`s impossible to reach such a high ranking without many wins, but there`s a significant difference between achieving consistent victories and winning decisive, crucial matches. [Carlos] Alcaraz is in the same half of the draw here [in Rome]. If Zverev beats Carlos, reaches the final, or wins in Rome, that would certainly be a completely different story.”
