Manchester United legend Roy Keane strongly criticized goalkeeper Altay Bayindir for his mistake during the match against Newcastle.
Bayindir, who replaced Andre Onana after a poor performance against Lyon, made his first Premier League start for United on Sunday. However, the Turkish goalkeeper had a nightmarish game at St James` Park as Newcastle defeated Manchester United 4-1.

Despite joining from Fenerbahce last summer for £4 million, Bayindir experienced a debut to forget. He conceded three goals within the first 64 minutes and then made a critical error 13 minutes later when his short kick from the box was intercepted.
Joelinton intercepted the ball and passed it to Bruno Guimaraes, who scored past Bayindir, sealing a disappointing day for the United goalkeeper.
Speaking after the game, Roy Keane, former Manchester United captain, directly criticized Bayindir’s mistake.
Keane believes Bayindir lacked the necessary composure and decision-making expected of a goalkeeper at this level.

“Of course, it’s his fault,” Keane stated, referring to the blunder. “I`m not sure of the advantage of that pass. It was too risky. At the highest level, decision-making is crucial.”
Keane acknowledged that new goalkeepers need time to adjust to the speed of the game but argued that Bayindir`s mistake was basic and unacceptable. “This is top-level football,” Keane emphasized. “You`re playing against Newcastle, a strong team, and you need to be aware of the pressure. If you`re going to kick long, make sure it goes far to avoid immediate danger. Losing the ball in that position can directly lead to a goal. It`s common sense.”
Les Ferdinand, another pundit, agreed with Keane, noting a trend of goalkeepers overcomplicating situations. “Nowadays, goalkeepers try to be too precise and clever,” Ferdinand commented. “Instead of clearing the danger, especially when already down 3-1, he attempts a risky short pass, which ultimately led to another goal. It makes you wonder, what are you doing?”
The defeat confirmed Manchester United`s worst Premier League season in history, guaranteeing them to finish with less than 56 points, their lowest ever in the Prem era.
