Reports indicate that Ruben Amorim is closely observing Andre Onana and several other Manchester United players as the season concludes. This assessment is part of preparations for a significant summer transfer window.
Amorim and his team will be monitoring Onana`s performances in the remaining matches to determine his future as Manchester United`s primary goalkeeper.
The £47 million goalkeeper was notably absent from United`s 4-1 defeat against Newcastle on Sunday. This followed his two costly errors in the Europa League quarter-final against Lyon the previous Thursday.
Onana`s mistakes against the French club occurred after a verbal exchange with Lyon player Nemanja Matic prior to the game.
Matic reportedly described Onana as “one of the worst goalkeepers in Man Utd history,” while Lyon fans also jeered Onana before kickoff due to his claims that United were superior to their opponents.
Following Amorim`s decision to bench Onana for the Newcastle match, Onana is now reportedly “on trial” for the rest of the season.
According to reports, Manchester United have made signing a new goalkeeper a priority this summer. The decision on whether this new signing will be the first-choice goalkeeper will depend on Onana`s performance in the coming games.
Altay Bayindir, the Turkish international who replaced Onana on Sunday and conceded four goals, is expected to seek regular first-team football elsewhere at the end of the season.
It is suggested that Onana is among many players who could be affected by a significant squad overhaul at Manchester United, with few senior players guaranteed safety.
Amorim stated that he left Onana out of the Newcastle game to allow him to “disconnect” and prepare for the upcoming second leg against Lyon.
He explained, “You have to consider the context; it`s normal. Sometimes you need to push a player to continue, and sometimes you need to let them step back a little.”
“He will train to prepare for the next match [against Lyon]. I felt it was a good moment for Andre to disconnect.”
“I think he understood the situation because I explained it. You don`t have to like it, but you understand the reasoning.”
“It`s a normal situation when managing a team. People focus on the physical aspect, but the mental side is very important.”

Reports indicate Onana, along with his agent, attended Manchester United training this week. His future at the club is uncertain, and he is reportedly unaware of the club`s plans for him.
It is reported that Manchester United would need to recoup at least £26.2 million this summer to avoid Financial Fair Play losses related to Onana`s transfer fee.
Onana has made eight errors leading to goals this season, contributing to Manchester United`s record of worst-ever Premier League points total after the defeat to Newcastle.
Several goalkeepers have been mentioned as potential replacements for Onana, including Zion Suzuki from Japan, Bart Verbruggen of Brighton, Diogo Costa from Porto, and Mike Maignan of AC Milan.
Additionally, Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton, and Championship goalkeepers Freddie Woodman and Aynsley Pears are also reportedly on Manchester United`s radar.
