Upsets are not limited to just the NCAA tournaments this March.
The first-ever TGL season culminates with a best-of-three championship series at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, this Monday and Tuesday.
In the semifinals last week, fourth-seeded New York Golf Club achieved a surprising 6-4 victory over top-seeded Los Angeles Golf Club. Simultaneously, No. 3 Atlanta Drive GC defeated No. 2 The Bay Golf Club with a score of 9-3 in the other semifinal match.

New York Golf Club aims to retaliate for a previous 4-0 defeat by Atlanta Drive GC on January 21, which was the first shutout in TGL history.
Atlanta Drive secured two points in the nine-hole triples (alternate shot) format initially. Subsequently, Thomas extended the lead to 3-0 by winning a point against Young in singles on the 10th hole. Horschel then sealed the match victory by gaining a fourth point against Fitzpatrick on the 11th hole.
In their earlier encounter, Atlanta Drive GC demonstrated superior putting performance, accumulating 65 feet of putts, including a notable 24-foot putt from Thomas on the fourth hole. In contrast, New York Golf Club only achieved 15 feet of putts in total during the first match.
Fitzpatrick commented after their first match, `We haven`t sunk a putt yet.`
Arthur M. Blank, owner of Atlanta Drive GC and the Atlanta Falcons, and Steve Cohen, owner of New York Mets and NYGC, along with rapper Ja Rule and two-time NBA champion J.R. Smith, were among the spectators at the teams` first match.
Atlanta Drive GC Stats: Atlanta Drive GC has shown remarkable strength in singles matches throughout this season, leading the league with 23 points in these contests. Horschel tops the league individually with eight singles points, while Thomas (5-0-5) and Glover (1-0-3) are the only TGL players yet to experience a singles loss this season.
Atlanta Drive GC holds the second rank in TGL for strokes gained in ball striking and total feet of putts made. They are also positioned fourth in driving accuracy (68.3%) and fifth in greens in regulation (63.3%).
Horschel`s Perspective: `J.T. is an incredibly aggressive player, always pushing his limits and striving for exceptional shots. His iron play is phenomenal, rarely faltering, which makes him a formidable competitor. And when his putting is on point…`
Keys to Victory: For Atlanta Drive GC to clinch the inaugural SoFi Cup, they must maintain their dominance in singles matches and effectively utilize the `Hammer.` Each TGL match starts with each team possessing three Hammers (which doubles the point value of a hole when used). These can be applied once per hole during the nine triples and six singles matches.
Atlanta Drive GC has amassed 13 points on holes where a Hammer was used, which is double the amount of any other TGL team. They have also deployed the second-highest number of Hammers (12) while losing the fewest (four).
New York Golf Club Stats: While Atlanta Drive GC has primarily excelled in singles, New York Golf Club`s success is rooted in triples competition. NYGC has secured 17 points in the alternate-shot format, tying for second place in TGL. They also rank second, following The Bay Golf Club, in the number of triples holes won, with 15.
Driven by Young (317.6 yards) and Schauffele (328.1), New York Golf Club is ranked second in average driver distance (317.6). They also hold the second position in average driver ball speed (181 mph).
Schauffele`s Comment: `I don’t expect much trash talk from Pat; it’s usually a one-way conversation when we`re together. But Billy is hard to miss out there. He`s the one to watch out for; if he gets too hyped, he`ll dominate.`
Keys to Victory: New York Golf Club needs to capitalize on their current momentum. After losing their first two matches, NYGC has achieved a 3-0-1 record in their last four. During this period, they lead TGL in holes won, points earned, strokes gained overall and in putting, and total feet of putts made.
For success, New York Golf Club should aim to secure several points in the triples segment to establish a buffer before entering the singles matches, where Atlanta Drive GC has been particularly strong this season.
