Stefanos Tsitsipas Criticizes Madrid Masters Clay as “Impossible to Play On”

Sport news

World No. 18 Stefanos Tsitsipas voiced his strong dissatisfaction with the condition of the clay court after his second-round match at the Madrid Masters. Despite winning the match against Jan-Lennard Struff with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, the Greek player felt the surface was unsuitable for play.

Speaking at a post-match press conference, Tsitsipas did not hold back his criticism.

“It was impossible to play on the court today,” he stated. “When I tried to slide, it felt like an ice rink. I`ve never experienced anything like this on clay before. The clay here is different from usual. I have a lot of experience playing on this surface, and the conditions were very unpleasant.”

Tsitsipas`s comments highlight potential challenges players face adapting to the unique clay conditions at the Madrid Open.
