Ben Askren`s wife has issued a further update regarding the condition of the former MMA champion, who is currently hospitalized and battling pneumonia.
The 40-year-old fighter was previously reported as “unresponsive” after being admitted to the hospital last week.
Askren remains in a critical state, having developed pneumonia subsequent to a staph infection.
Recently, a false rumor circulated claiming he had tragically passed away.
However, his wife, Amy Askren, has publicly denied these reports. Speaking to TMZ Sports, she confirmed that Ben is “definitely still fighting” for his life.
Former fighter and commentator Daniel Cormier revealed that Askren has been transferred to a medical facility in his home state of Wisconsin.
Cormier shared his thoughts: “Everybody is just kind of praying that Ben gets better and we can start moving forward with life for Ben.”
He added, “It’s so sad. I don’t know how things like this happen to someone who is so good because Ben is a good guy.”
Cormier urged support, saying, “Pray for Amy, guys. Pray for the kids. Ben, we love you, buddy. We are constantly thinking about him every single day.”
Amy Askren, who married Ben in 2010 and shares three children with him, released a heartfelt statement on Tuesday.
Her statement read: “Feeling so incredibly thankful for our friends and community.”
She continued, “It’s times like this that remind you how truly blessed you are.”
“I feel God moving through the love and support we have received,” Amy expressed.
“I’m sorry if I haven’t had the chance to respond to you, but know I’ve seen your messages, and each one has meant so much to me,” she added, concluding with a plea: “Please keep praying for Ben.”
Ben Askren, a former Bellator welterweight world champion, retired from mixed martial arts in 2019 following a brief three-fight stint in the UFC.
He also stepped into the boxing ring in 2021 for a bout against Jake Paul, which he lost via first-round knockout.
