Taylor Fritz on Karen Khachanov Match: ‘It’s Going to Come Down to Who Performs Better in the Big Moments’

Sport news

World No. 5 Taylor Fritz commented on reaching the Wimbledon quarter-finals after Jordan Thompson retired from their match. The Australian player withdrew when the score was 1-6, 0-3.

Obviously, it`s not the way you want to go through. I wanted to play Jordan and play some good tennis. He`s been grinding, playing five-setters in this tournament. He had a long doubles match yesterday. It`s been tough for him, and I respect him for coming out and trying to play. Obviously, he`s hurt, and it`s really a shame. I hope he recovers quickly.

The American player also shared his expectations for the quarter-final match against Karen Khachanov.

I think it`s going to be a tough match. We have pretty similar game styles. It`s going to come down to whoever performs better in the big moments. I feel confident I`m playing well, so I just need to focus on my game the day after tomorrow,

Fritz stated in a post-match interview after the Round of 16.

Khachanov leads their head-to-head record 2-0, with both previous matches played on hard courts.
