The TGL playoffs continued on Tuesday night with a compelling match between The Bay Golf Club and Atlanta Drive Golf Club.
The Bay GC, entering as the No. 2 seed in the postseason, had only experienced one defeat this season prior to this match, against Los Angeles Golf Club on March 3rd. This loss cost them the coveted top seed for the playoffs. Atlanta Drive GC, seeded third, also had a single loss this season, ironically against The Bay on February 17th.
Representing The Bay were golfers Min Woo Lee, Ludvig Åberg, and Shane Lowry. Wyndham Clark was not active for this match. Atlanta Drive was represented by Justin Thomas, Billy Horschel, and Patrick Cantlay, with Lucas Glover sitting out.
In the end, Atlanta emerged victorious, defeating The Bay with a score of 9-3. This win propels Atlanta into the finals, where they will face New York GC in a best-of-three series scheduled for March 24th and 25th.
Here are the standout moments from Tuesday’s exciting TGL playoff match.
Lee’s 190 mph Drive
Min Woo Lee, known for his exceptional driving distance and speed, lived up to his reputation right from the start. On his first drive of the night, he achieved a distance of 328 yards and reached a peak speed of 190 miles per hour.
Star-Studded Playoff Spectators
The second match of the TGL semifinals attracted a host of famous faces. Among the attendees were former NFL quarterback Michael Vick, former Atlanta Braves star Chipper Jones, golfer Rory McIlroy, and Atlanta Falcons players Michael Penix Jr. and Kyle Pitts.
Lowry’s Near Bunker Shot
Shane Lowry showcased skillful play as he attempted to prevent Atlanta from scoring on Hole 8. He executed a remarkable 40-foot chip shot from the bunker for par, which agonizingly missed the hole at the last moment.
Thomas’s Fortunate Bounce on Hole 10
Justin Thomas benefited from luck on Hole 10 when his shot, heading out of bounds, bounced back into play off a restricted area. Rory McIlroy, commentating on the broadcast, even remarked it was ‘the luckiest bounce’ he had ever witnessed.
Cantlay’s Almost Hole-in-One Seals Victory
Facing elimination, The Bay strategically used their last ‘hammer’ to double the stakes on Hole 12. However, Patrick Cantlay responded emphatically by hitting an incredible shot that nearly resulted in a hole-in-one. The ball stopped just under four feet from the hole. Atlanta then used their final ‘hammer’ to triple the points for the hole. Cantlay then successfully made the putt, securing the victory for Atlanta.
