With a professional record of 11 wins and just 1 loss, Jake Paul still has one opponent he needs to face again. Paul harbors significant ambitions in the boxing world as he prepares for his upcoming bout on June 28.
`The Problem Child` is scheduled to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, a matchup that materialized after a planned major fight with Canelo Alvarez unexpectedly fell through at the last moment.
The only defeat for the often-controversial star came against Tommy Fury in 2023. Notably, Paul still managed to earn a considerable sum from that fight, even in defeat.
The rivalry between Paul and Fury has remained active, with both fighters continuing to trade jabs since their initial encounter, indicating that their story is far from over.
Tommy Fury Believes a Rematch is Likely Within the Next Year But Isn`t Actively Seeking It
Tommy Fury recently appeared on the debut episode of Eddie Hall`s new podcast, “The Good, The Bad & The Beast,” where he reflected on his history with Jake Paul.
Despite their fight ending in a split decision, during which Paul scored a knockdown in the final round, Fury maintains that the knockdown was actually a slip. He contends that this was the only round `The Problem Child` legitimately won.
Quoting his own actions, Fury recalled, “There’s the jab there, knocked his wig nearly off,” adding with a touch of humor, “I don’t know how that hair is staying on to be honest.”
Fury clarified that while he isn`t aggressively pursuing a rematch, having already secured a win over Paul, he sees it as the only fight that truly matters for his former opponent.
He expressed a strong belief that they will meet in the ring for a second time within the next year, noting that Paul himself has recently voiced a similar sentiment.
“I think the Jake Paul fight, that’s always going to be there `cause there is a lot of history with that fight… I believe that fight, like he said a few weeks ago, I think that fight happens in the next 12 months,” Fury stated. “I’ll be ready for that fight and if he wants to try and change what happened the last time, he can try, but it ain’t going to work… No matter what he says, it’s a huge fight. It’s a huge fight. It makes sense for me. Makes sense for him. I ain’t pushing it, he knows where I am.”
Jake Paul Included Tommy Fury on His Recent Six-Man Hitlist
Assuming he gets past Julio Cesar Chavez Jr on June 28, Jake Paul has a roster of prominent opponents he aims to face.
Tommy Fury was one of the names Paul mentioned in a video posted on Most Valuable Promotions’ YouTube channel. The list also included figures like KSI and Anthony Joshua.
While Fury might not be the most globally renowned name among Paul`s potential targets, a rematch against him would be immensely significant for Paul. It would provide an opportunity to demonstrate how much he has improved since their initial bout.
Settling the score with the only boxer who has defeated him would serve as a solid foundation for `The Problem Child` to advance towards even bigger and more celebrated opponents.
