Heavyweight boxing icon Tyson Fury has taken direct action in a final push to arrange a rematch between Jake Paul and his younger brother, Tommy Fury.
The two-time world heavyweight champion was present ringside for Tommy`s notable victory over Paul in February 2023. This fight marked the only time the prominent YouTuber has suffered a professional boxing defeat. The contest was decided by a split decision, and notably, Fury was knocked down in the eighth round. Following the bout, fans have consistently demanded a second fight.
Reports now indicate that Paul is likely to make another attempt to secure a return fight with Tommy, especially after a previous offer to compete on Netflix last year was reportedly declined. In response, the older brother of the former `Love Island` contestant is now getting involved in the negotiation process.
Tyson Fury Reaches Out to Jake Paul Privately About Tommy Fight
Jake Paul has previously stated he made a substantial offer to Tommy Fury for a Netflix fight last year, which was supposedly turned down because it wasn`t considered sufficient compensation. Instead, Paul went on to face Mike Tyson in a highly anticipated event that generated significant buzz but received mixed reactions from viewers.
Talks for a potential fight with the younger Fury, who returned to the ring in May with a win over Kenan Hanjalic, are expected to restart. Behind the scenes, his famous brother, former unified heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, is playing a role.
“I hoped they would agree,” Tyson Fury commented in an interview with Seconds Out regarding a potential rematch. “I’ve even sent a text message to Jake Paul to ask what’s happening and if he’s interested in getting it on with Tommy to make the fight happen. I just believe there are many egos involved in boxing.
“It becomes a lot about ‘he said this, she said that, I want this, I want that’. When situations like that arise, it makes organising fights challenging, as has been seen over the years.”
Jake Paul Names Five Potential Opponents After Recent Victory
Following his win against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on Saturday night, Jake Paul listed several fighters he is interested in facing, including Tommy Fury. His list was notably diverse, featuring names from lightweight up to heavyweight world champions.
As someone recently ranked in the WBA cruiserweight top 15, Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez was a logical name, and Paul had a face-off with him. Paul also expressed interest in fighting WBC champion Badou Jack, who fits Paul`s pattern of selecting opponents over 40 who achieved their peak success at significantly lower weights than 200lbs.
“I want tougher opponents. I aspire to become a world champion,” Paul declared during his post-fight speech on Saturday. “Zurdo looked slow tonight, that would also be easy work. Badou Jack, I want everyone. Anthony Joshua, Gervonta (Davis), and Tommy, stop avoiding me.”
